The Trip To Taiping

Bismillah, Assalamualaikum =D

On 23rd May until 25th May, I went to Taiping for Program Za’ba Undergraduate Motivation 2008 (PROZUM) at Sekolah Menengah Teknik Taiping. The program included motivation activities for the Form 4 boys and girls of the school, volunteering work at Taiping Zoo, Explorace at the Taiping Park, visit to the Rumah Sri Kenangan whereby this is the FIRST time I went to an old folks home, Forum Perdana, expedition climbing Maxwell Hill, the kids performed for us and the saddest moment of all is when the kids lined up while we were all in the bus and saluted us and then waved us goodbye~

Participating in programs like this makes me love the teaching profession more as I was the facilitator of group 1 and the groups were named after a traditional delicacy. The 3 boys and 3 girls in my group agreed to be called LEPAT, hehe

I spent a lot of time with them, pulled out weeds at the zoo while chatting away with them, whining to be let go off quickly as I could hear the lions and tigers roaring my name, hehe, forced to participate in the Explorace with these kids and getting all sunburned while rushing to complete the tasks and teaching these kids strategies and how to cheat (a bit) in some tasks (what the organizers don’t know won’t hurt them, huhu), shared stories about what we got throughout meeting the various old folks, climbed Maxwell Hill with them and one of them said, kakak ni mmg bestla panjat bukit dgn kami, and compelled me to play hopscotch with them as part of the act, hehehe

I missed them dearly and treasured all those moments with these kids, they were amazing and SO CUTE! At first, they were so shy but I pestered them to talk and no one is allowed to NOT voice out anything! At the zoo, these kids were probably rolling out their eyes because I was more eager than them when walking around the zoo capturing pictures and talking to the zookeeper to gain information. For the Explorace, I kept telling them that they can do it! The funniest part was the Fear Factor task whereby we had to eat bread with chilies, crackers with some sort of spices, a lemon, sweets mixed with salt and Arif had to chug down coffee that was only mixed with water! Eeww! And he did it while holding his nose! And it was sooo funny that I laughed until the whole Explorace finished! I only regretted that I didn’t think of taking his picture! He’s so cute!

It was an eye-opener when I visited the old folks’ home. I have never been to one and even though I was extremely sleepy (the trip was after the break which was after the Explorace), I perked up when I came close to some of the old folks to hear their stories and the stories were SAD – that’s what I can sum up about the trip…

But I loved watching those kids approaching the elderly and wanting to know their stories, they were aware that it was all experience and lessons for them and it touched my heart that all the boys and girls wanted to know and learn. And then we would meet at the middle and exchanged stories…

That old lady said that her son was a drunk and that she didn’t care if he visits her.
That old man wanted to cry when I asked him about his family, so I had to change the subject, fast!
That old man said that he divorced his wife, why keep a horrible woman as a wife!
That old lady thanks us for visiting her as her children never do.

And then there were the mentally unstable…

What saddens me most is that we watched them as they were locked up because they were aggressive. It was like back at the zoo as we watched them wide-eyed and we tried to talk to them but we couldn’t at all make out what they’re saying. We crowded around the compound separated by the gate and I hated for feeling like as if they were some sort of freak show but they were so…sigghh~

This program was organized by my block at college, Block B so I’m pretty proud of the whole organization, hehe, my only grouses would be that I didn’t get to go around the whole of the zoo due to time constraints but that’s my only grumble because apart from that, I loved everything especially the kids, how I love the kids! ^_^

Happy Teacher's Day ^_^

Bismillah, Assalamualaikum =)

Today is 16th May 2008 and before this, the date does not hold much significance to me. This is because in high school, it was mummy dearest who would fuss over what gifts should I give to my teachers, it was never me who would take the initiatives to looked for the best gifts ever. It’s not that I don’t appreciate my teachers but as far as I can remembered, I didn’t see the benefits of getting close to any of my teachers. Don’t get me wrong, I love my teachers and have the utmost respect to them plus always include them in my prayers but I never thought of having a teacher to be my confidante.

Now I am going to become a teacher or have I become one…

When I went for ROS (Rancangan Orientasi Sekolah whereby my roommate and I went to observe SMK Sg Layar in Sungai Petani on the teachings there and the school conditions), I was smitten by the students’ there, all of them even though some of them are into Mawi World (back then was the Mawi craze, eeww), some of them asyik talk about remp-it; cikgu penah tgk org wat willy tak? (whatever that is!), some of them were into black metal, some of them were very weak in English, some of them said, ee, saya lebih tinggi dari cikgu :p

And these kids made me wanted to be their confidante. In my heart, I wanted to be their friend, more than their teacher, so much more than that and I fell in love not only with that school but also the teaching profession. I hated the fact that some people still looked down on the teaching profession. They loved my course but hated that I would end up being a teacher. And they also made me doubted whether I wanted to remain in this profession. And I hated the dilemma that I get but I still have a long way to go and Allah will show me the way (",)

selamat hari guru cikgu ku sayang, mmuuuaahh360
-from my student who’s in constant touch with me and simply cannot wait for me to get back to Sungai Petani [next semester, in case anyone is wondering] and likewise with me, I can’t wait either-

Like I said, from my first experience, I felt enthralled and eager to become a teacher and I won’t say I’m ready to brace the storms but I know that there will always be a rainbow at the end and that I COULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

To all the teachers, I salute you, I know now it’s so hard to become a teacher and that maybe you just needed a friend...

I want to be an inspiring teacher who will always be inspired by my students but most of all, I want to be their TEACH CHEER ^_^

But teach (thy Message): for teaching benefits the Believers.

help me find sponsors

Bismillah, Assalamualaikum :s

It’s not that I don’t want to go back home, I do so want to take a leave but I can’t because for the Baktisiswa, I am elected as the head of the sponsorship unit and am responsible to at least collect RM5,000 worth of money and it’s such a pressured kinda job! But everybody else has their share of hard work so I can’t complain and besides, this is my very last task as a JMKZ and I do like to spend time with the JMKZ but I am at my wits end on how to collect fast money!

It seems like when you watch movies and those Americans teens can find such easy sponsorship but even though I’m on the move but it’s like I’m not going anywhere. Perhaps I’m not doing enough but what is enough when my heart is screaming HOME! But it’s selfish for me if I were to go back home since some of the JMKZ really work their socks off trying to complete their work.

So is it my fault that even though I feel like I’m moving, trying to find as much sponsorship as possible but the money is still not flowing…

It’s so hard to get money [duh!]

ANY SUGGESTIONS? Please…

Apart from the usual asking for sponsorship through letters and phoning, giving these big companies our paperwork and those important documents, we are currently recycling, still brainstorming on making sandwiches to be able to sell to Proton workers in the morning and *blank*

for the JMKZ 2007 / 2008

Bismillah, Assalamualaikum (",)

When I first entered Za’ba Residential College, all I wanted to do was study and focus on my academic with a comfortable place to live in for the 2 years that I had to undergo in this university. Little did I know that Allah always had the best laid plans for me~

I am the friendly type because I like to talk and get to know people but for the first year in college, I couldn’t care less about the people residing there. All I bothered about was my studies and course mates and everything else except the who’s who or the what’s what in college. In short, ala, whatever la, if there were any college activities, my housemates and I turned a deaf ear and a blind eye and there was even one time that we actually closed the lights in our house afraid that they might come and force us out because we rebelled in joining their activities.

But I had a turning point in my second year in college / university, I was like, heck, I am in university, regardless of what university but I’m only going to be at around this age once in my life, I might as well achieve something rather than academic stuffs.

I didn’t know how I got chosen but I dreaded it, I hated it, I didn’t want to be a JMKZ, they had a bad reputation and being one meant that I would be busy and so what about my studies! I was worried and in an dilemma and I could just get out of it but I kept thinking that I got chosen and it was an opportunity and I never have let go of such open doors to so many things before so I wasn’t going to start now. I think what made me decide that I wanted to become a JMKZ was mummy dearest as I asked mama and she said, why not! This is the time for you to challenge yourself. And from that moment, I knew that I should test myself, push myself, become so much better and see if I could be as discipline as I always wanted to be.

And it was such an eye-opener when I joined the JMKZ and become a part of the college workforce and I didn’t care that the JMKZ didn’t do any such massive programs but I was HAPPY and CONTENTED because I had the BEST workforce. There were the best! And I love each and everyone with all my heart. It’s hard to describe the friendship that we have but it’s special and full of appreciation, respect, tolerance but most of all, affection.

so i would like to express what i feel and this is all i could do, hehe :p

It didn’t matter that meetings finished until the wee hours of the night,
That meetings were in the morning on public holidays,

That some programs I had to wake up early to attend,

That some programs I had to go back late because of long speeches,

That sometimes we had to eat dinner so late,

That sometimes we had to sacrifice our meals because rushing to complete our tasks,

That some nights, I had to sleep at 3am because I had to juggle between JMKZ tasks and assignments,

That sometimes I get scrutinize because failure to do something,

That there were times when I feel like giving up,

That there were times when I feel like breaking down and crying,

That it was hard when people have high expectations towards me,

That they expected me to perfectly do my job,

And that I have to make it happen and make it to perfection,

And I felt so pressured but I take it as a good sort of stress,

But still hated to work under the pressure of it all,

That all of a sudden, JMKZ were called in for something while we were doing something else,

That I had missed only one class for the sake of my program,

That I had sleepless nights because worried of my program,

That there were always free foods,

That if one person from the JMKZ did something bad, the whole workforce was responsible,

That it didn’t matter because it just didn’t matter,
What mattered most was I’m writing this because I’m happy and these people from the JMKZ 2007 / 2008 adds to my happiness so thank you <3

Verily, this brotherhood of yours is a single brotherhood and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore serve Me (and no other).

And verily this brotherhood of yours is a single brotherhood and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other).

I Love My JMKZ 2007 / 2008

Bismillah, Assalamualaikum :)

i dedicate this poem to:

Ridhwan, Halimatul Saadiah, Zaifahmi, Sakinah Halmi, Baizura, Ainatun, Nasrin, Sakinah Saad, Amin Al Matin, Nazmi Izyan, Kamilah, Hazwan, Rathnangsih, Syahidda Salha, May Sarah, Syafiq, Normadila, Shuang, Hannan, Ain, Hanis, Monirah, Ainna, Izzati, Hisyamuddin and especially to my exco partner cum my course mate, Lutfi =D

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

from e.e. cummings

'let us not say goodbye but see you again,
let us meet in heaven if we do not meet in this lifetime again'.

i love each and everyone of you and my heart crumples as we have to part but the memories will remain in my heart and soul forever and ever~
