Bismillah, Assalamualaikum
My students, even the best ones in the top class grapple and struggle with the English Language and I don't blame em.
Some of em just don't seem all that interested in the subject.
Some of em are beyond passive about learning as they just plain resist it.
If students don't think they can learn, they often resist efforts that seek to make them learn.
Some can't see the reason they're learning such foreign language and I tell em they can just go to Japan then!
Some students are just afraid as they like doing what they already know. Why make life harder than it already is right?
and I as the teacher grapple and struggle too, because I and them are like magnets, opposing forces and we try so hard to stick, but alas~
These students have missing motivation and I am left with the tall order to find it for them!
and I'm human, what if I wanna move on? Would you let me?

As Salaamu alaykum My Dearest
^_^ I must have most likely missed you by just a few steps.. you must've probably just left upon my arrival..
K.Reyma baru baca thy lil message you left on my doorstep, and i immediately set on my way here
...
Some imagery to start with and to lighten up the atmosphere .. ^__^
Some pointers you asked for? Hmm i may not be able to impart the best of such thing, i'm not from the class of professionals hence i wudnt have much enlightening and inspiring tips to share..and plus i've always been reaping inspiration off you, Cikgu Maddie
So all i have to share with you are my usual meager faith and humble thoughts laiden with love, sincerity and optimism
I never really had proper training in Education bcs as you know, by qualification i was never really equipped and geared formally towards Education, so yea its been hard grappling in the dark and the things i do pretty much go by intuition
Now that i'm entering my third year in this blessed field, i'm beginning to understand the flow and am slowly immersing into the rhythm and i'm just beginning to learn How to Teach..
So moving on from there i just wanna say; Dont give up yet Madeehah..its just the beginning ^__^
One of the lessons that my limited experience have taught me is that; Learning takes time, especially on the Learners behalf..
Sometimes as teachers, particularly as newcomers to the field, we tend to set our standards somewhat high for our students to fly up to.. because often, we are soaring unconsciously high ourselves on the wings of Idealism..and we often forget to lower our expectations
SO if there's any sector that requires Patience then Education will make the highest demand.. :)
Yes its undeniably FRUSTRATING when they just 'dont geddit'.. but where my own experience is concerned, it took me almost three years before i could witness apparent development in my students..
So for the lower secondary, try to allocate some space and Time for them to internalize the wisdom, grow and show their real potentials and for the upper secondary, try not to pressure yourself. As teachers we can only teach them how to use the fishing rod .. we should not be fishing for them..they need to learn how to fish for themselves..
And for me, and this comes from the bottom of my heart; you're doing way wayyyy better than i am, having to live independently in another state and at a distant from your family.. and i've always believed that the environment in a government school is far more challenging compared to our private Islamic schools; an almost protected realm, so the current is not as strong
So for those yang dimobilizekan gracefully by Allah untuk berkhidmat di sekolah2 kerajaan di luar sana, well it says a lot about your capacity and capabilities, donit.. ^_^
So here's to the invincible new generation of teachers who will work first as Murabbis (connecting subjects to their Lord) and then as Muaddibs (moulding subjects with good behaviour) and of course as Muallims (imparting knowledge that develops the intellect)
I'll come by again inshaAllah
Ps: i'm sorry i took up too much space
thank you kak rahimah and don't fret coz you never did take too much space!
i'm not giving up on teaching yet but i don't deny the feeling has crossed my mind on this particular school but not teaching because i aspire to be a lecturer. but i feel guilty because sometimes i sense that this is a calling to me and of course i'm placed at that school for a reason. perhaps i'll find that reason ;)
Learning takes time, especially on the Learners behalf..
yes, i do realize this but i still have a problem going to the students' level. perhaps my english has always been up a notch that it's so challenging to adjust it to the students' benefit. and i feel so guilty for my students but i know i'm also learning just like em. but in my case, their trial and major exams are coming up and i'm so freaking out! it just scares me that i don't have enuff time and that i am responsible to increase the percentage of students to pass English :s
i really like this:

these words will be etched in my mind as a reminder. thank you so much sis for that ^_^
you know what kak rahimah, when i read your post, i thought to myself, kan best dapat sek camtu. perhaps i'll be a teacher longer if i get a school like that. but then, like you said, what i'm doing now says a lot about my capacity and capabilities and its so true!
betcha would be so shock at these govt schools!
i dunno la, its just so complicated but i'm learning, and i have a loooong wayyy to go~
i know you'll always pray for me so thank you sis, from the bottom of my heart =))
